This product works as expected. The only issue I encountered during the installation is the screws were not long enough, but that's more due to the electrician mounting the box deeper into the wall than is typical. After I was able to get some longer screws, everything went together as expected and it works.I was thrilled to find this product because sometimes people turn on gas fireplaces and forget that they're turned on and doze off to sleep. That's a safety concern but it also burns up a ton of natural gas!Added these switches to two of our existing gas fireplaces that had millivolt control valves. The installation of the switch was straightforward. The threading of the control wire through the inside of the stud walls into the back of the fireplaces was very difficult. I used a camera on the end of a long snake to help. One fireplace switches on reliably. The other is a bit less reliable in coming on - but do not blame the switch - the thirty year old thermopile is weak. The price is a bit high but it was the only product that seemed to fit the project. Very happy with the results and would certainly recommend them to others. This worked great for my log set. I have a rental cabin that has a log set that runs on a thermopile/Millivolt system. I used this to replace an existing remote as I did not want renters leaving the fireplace on for hours on end and sure they can keep pushing the timer, but this at least shuts it down if they leave it unattended. Took me all of 30 minutes to take out my existing wireless system and install this. Only gave it 4 stars as the batteries were bad and one of the contacts was missing a battery contact spring (I improvised, took out the contact and bent it to flex the bottom of the battery. When you buy this, do yourself a favor and buy some of the "button" batteries (CR2032) and a fresh set of AA's. As I stated one of the AAs was bad and about burned out the unit and the 2 button batteries were flat out dead. I put in a picture to show the install. You get the remote (timer) and the receiver.I bought the thermostat to replace a similar product that was installed on a Jotul gas heater and that had failed. Installation was fairly straightforward although I felt that the instructions left a lot to be desired. Programming the thermostat is really simple, but in my opinion not very intuitive. I've also found that the room needs to be brightly lit in order to see the numerals on the thermostat display. Overall though, the thermostat does fit my needs and works as it is designed to.12/13/20 Update: After replacing the batteries in the thermostat I've lowered my rating from 4 stars to 3 stars. The batteries, 2 - CR2032 batteries, fit so tightly in the case that they are nearly impossible to remove. The thermostat has a slot for each battery to aid removal, but they fit so tightly that almost nothing works to remove the old batteries. I finally resorted to using a letter opener in the slot with a lot of pressure on it. There is no reason that I can see for the batteries to fit so tightly.I purchased the wireless timer based unit. I had to return the first one - the receiver would not learn the transmitter. The replacement unit worked fine. My tips are these: 1) when placing the flat batteries in the transmitter, take extra care to slide them in from the bottom so the button cells slip under the two tabs in each battery compartment. The battery compartment is cheaply made and it is extremely easy to bend these little tabs down out of their proper position. 2) Perform the Receiver Learn operation before you even get near the fireplace - even though the directions tell you to do it after installation. Save yourself some trouble in the event it doesn’t work.Wireless remote installed on wall near fireplace. Didn’t have issues with battery like some reviewers. Batteries slide up under tabs in compartment which is not immediately obvious. Using for rental property so live the timer feature. Bought two for my fireplaces. Both work perfectly. Used the provided batteries. Good thing b/c my old batteries were dead.I’ve used this thermostat for my gas fireplace for 17 years. It was installed by the company that installed my fireplace. I’ve had to replace it numerous times over the years because it just quits working. Yes, I change the batteries when they start to die but eventually the thermostat just won’t work any more and I have to replace it, again. I only have to replace the front section so it’s easy enough, it just seems like a thermostat should last longer. I recommend you find a different one unless you don’t mind replacing it about every three years or so.Like to see in off white ivory as well.Just what I needed. Will buy more. Wish it came in white.
