How to use electric timers to save money and reduce harmful carbon pollution.1. Put outdoor lights and or lamps on a timer. Setting a timer to turn off lights after hours or when the sun comes up is a simple and effective way to cut down on holiday electric bills2. Lighted houses, jack lanterns, window candles or other decorations on a timer.3. Christmas trees have the come on a few hours in the evening and turn off when you usually go to bed.4. Putting grow lights for plants on timer is another way to save on your electric bill while still providing the plants with the lights they need.5. putting aquarium lights on a timer they only need to be on 8-12 hours a day. Fish need a couple hours of darkness to sleep. They can’t sleep in the tank light is on they have no eye lids. Also too mutch light can lead to unsightly algae growth.6. putting aquarium air pumps on a timer (if you have live plants in your aquarium) so there only on at night when the plants aren’t producing oxygen.7. using a timer on candle wormers. You can have them come on cretin times of the day automatically. Best of all there no worry did turn the wormer off before I went to bed or left the house.8. Air fresheners putting them on a timer makes the sent pack that you buy last twice as long saving you money on those expensive scents refills. Have it turn off at night or while you are at work to make the sent pack last linger.9. Putting vaporizers and or humidifiers on a timer so that you home can’t get too moist is another grate way to save on your electric bill.10. Device Charging Stations While it might be routine for you to plug in your smartphone before heading to sleep each night, most devices typically only need a couple hours to fully recharge. This leaves you repeatedly drawing a small amount of unnecessary electricity during the hours you spend in bed. By connecting timer controls to wall outlets and power supplies, you can create an automatic shutoff that adds up to savings over the long haul.11. putting barn fans on a timer is another grate way to save a tone of energy. Best of all you don’t haft to rambler to plug them in when it’s hot outside or accidently leave on all night.12. Put a dehumidifier on a timer have it come on at night when electric rated are cheaper. Dehumidifier can be energy hogs but they don’t haft to be just put them on a timer.13. Window ac that have the knobs you could put it on a timer and have it com on 30 minutes before you get home from work and turn off when you usually go to bed. If you want the ac to come on sooner like on a weekend or day off just push the manual override on the timer to turn the ac on sooner and then push it again before you go to bed to put it back on time settings.14. use a timer on space heaters to turn then on when you need them and off when you don’t ( like when you leave you house) be sour to use an outdoor timer that says extra heavy duty.15. pool pumps only need to run for 6 hours a day any more than that is just a waste of energy consider putting them on a timer so there only allowed to run 6 a day ( preferably at night because electric rates are much cheaper.)16. Your cable box, could be using more energy than your refrigerator. Cable boxes, also called set-top boxes, consume the same amount of energy if not more required to run a refrigerator. When you turn it off you thing it’s off but it just uses 1 less watt of power costing you money and producing a ton co2. Consider plugging all your internment equipment in to a surge protector. Then plug the surge protector in to timer so that it can’t run at night.17. Modems (internet provider) and or routers putting them on a timer could save you between $.50 to $5.00 a month on your electric bill while limiting you exposure to harmful emf radiation. Thousands of studies link long-term exposure to WiFi radiation to many serious diseases including: cancer, brain tumors, breast cancer, depression, heart disease, infertility, miscarriage, and suicide18. block heaters set a timer turn them on 2 hours before the hours of day you use you truck. You could save between $15 to $30 a month on your electric bill.19. bug zappers there more affective at night so way not put them on a timer20. Install a hot water heater timer it could save you between $20 to $40 a MOUNTHY on your electric billThese timers work great that's why I gave them 4 stars but I paid for new and these had been returned from somebody else. Package was opened, no instructions were in pack. I'll keep them because I need them now but disappointed in Amazon for selling returned item as new.So far, there really is nothing functional wrong with these. However, they don't do anything special so its hard to imagine giving this sort of product 5 stars. So, I'll explain why this doesn't have the best rating.First, they are big. The easily cover up both outlets, which means you are limited to really only being able to plug them into one of the two standard outlets to leave the other functioning. This doesn't sound like a problem, but the prongs are polarized (I think this is the right term for this). Meaning, one prong is wider than the other which also means that they can only go into an outlet one way. So, if the outlet you need to use happens to be connected to a light switch (apartment people, you know what I am talking about), you can run into problems. This happened to me. The outlet I needed to use for a Christmas tree was on my switch, so I either lost both outlets or left the switch on all the time, thus losing my lamp that was on that same switch. Not a huge problem since Christmas isn't a year round ordeal. But, they are big. And for the size, I really feel they should have two outlets. I have one this large that has two. I also have one that is almost half the size with one. The outlet is to the size on that model, so the dial is essentially the face of it and then on the side is the outlet. It thus loses a star for being unnecessarily large and the lose in flexibility of positioning.I'll also take away one because it takes my grounded outlet with the three holes and reduces it to the two slots, typical of a desk lamp or something. Currently, I don't have a need for the grounded hole, but I think that it would be good to have since I don't know what I might need to plug into it in the future. Again, lose of function/flexibility costs it a star. Now for the one that is most annoying. It is actually kinda loud. I don't normally notice it when I am doing stuff during the day. Or up doing anything really. Normal background noise covers it up. When I did notice it was when I was going to sleep one night. I had a tree plugged into it in my bedroom and as I lay there getting ready to fall off to dream world, I noticed a sort of grinding sound. Faint, very faint, but I could hear it. It took me a minute to figure out it was the timer. Since it is mechanical, you can imagine it operates similar to a clock, which some sort of mechanical gear thing going on inside to move the clock like mechanisms. I moved it to another room and swapped out the timers (I have four Christmas trees up around my house so I have a lot of timers). It is not unbearable, and I certainly cannot hear it from another room. But...its an electric timer. I don't want to hear it at all, since I cannot hear my others. So, when I say loud, it is relative to the fact that I expected it to be silent. Lose a star. For the price, its ok. I don't regret my purchase. If you don't have situations similar to mine, you might love this timer. The fact that they come in twos is cool. I wouldn't tell you to shy away from this product, but I would say to think about how you are using them and if these issues will affect you or not.I bought these for the first time in 2013. After that I have bought them again quite a few times over the years. They all still work and we have no issues at all. And the fact that 8 years later the price is still $10 for a 2 pack - you can't beat that on value. If in the future I need more timers I will for sure buy these again - I won't even look around.PS - just be a little patient with the initial set up. I bought this to rig up a few lamps in my house but ended up using them for Christmas lights. I’ll probably order more. Easy to use. One thing that concerned me was how in the packaging fine print it says that you should wash your hands after handling them because it contains cancer causing substances. Not sure what substance but thought that was strange.
