Melnor 53015 Single-Outlet Digital Water Timer with Simple Programming & Manual Override - 1 Zone Irrigation Controller for Garden, Lawn & Outdoor Plants

I live in an area where watering is restricted to two days a week. So it is important to have a timer that you can set for those particular days. This just does that. It is also easy to set up. An excellent water timer.Wow this is so easy to use, I figured out the programming right away without looking at the manual. The triangle button at the top changes the display to the mode choice of: Auto / Off / Set Time / Start Water / How Long / How Often. Then the little arrow points to the white letters around the screen showing what mode it is in. The rest is pretty intuitive because it's just a matter of pressing the plus or minus or OK buttons.I like the battery cartridge design because it has a tray that slides in and out without needing a screwdriver or without difficult pinching and squeezing. This is a nice feature if you have arthritis in your finger joints, it is easy to change the batteries with a simple pull of the tray. I like to use Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries because they last much longer than alkaline batteries. Here is a photo of the battery tray.Bought this and initially had a little trouble programming it. Once I worked that out I am very pleased with it. No leaks, waters on time every time. And, most notably, there is no water hammer with this timer. It turns on and off very smoothly! Timers I've used in the past really caused a "bang" in the pipes. Not this one.I have two issues with this item. 1) I didn't expect it to come in the "ON" mode. There was no way to turn it off right out of the box. There is an obscure note on the Troubleshooting Tip doc. It states vibration during SHIPPING (???) might turn the valve on! Eventually I put in a fake program for the moment I was setting it up and had to let it run in order to get it turned off. Then, I could setup MY program. How stupid.2) It is restrictive. I'm used to running two sprinklers from one hose. This limits the range of both of them. I selected this one because so many of these things limit how often you can start water. I found other units would start only every 6 hours; how useless.I'm so glad I purchased this for my garden! This is the first time using a product like this. Very easy to set up and works exactly as designed and very easy to change the settings as the weather changed. I connected the timer to a 50 foot soaking hose and worked perfectly. All I have to do now is pick the weeds and enjoy the vegetables! I highly recommend this timer and also it's very affordable!Bought this a few years ago off Amazon. Product worked well for my tomatoes. (Tip - you may have to reset the unit by pulling out batteries and putting back in to ensure solanoids are closed as they can get loose during shipping.)After two years the unit stopped working. I actually bought a new unit off Amazon and when it arrived I saw it said that there's a 7 year warranty. I reached out to Melnor and they didn't hassle me about it in he least and sent me a replacement unit. It just arrived. I couldn't be more impressed with this company standing behind their product. I'll gladly shout it to everybody that this is a great product and if it stops working this company will take care of you..Very intuitive. Top button rotates programmable function. Ok selects choice, +/- depending on function selects option for "OK" or not, and/or rotates the time[s], where "OK" finalizes what ever function's choice is---flashing---to accept via the OK button to non-flashing steady on.the hose part is plastic, the supply site is both brass, with galvi-screen and some plastic: I consider this okdidn't look for straight through, but flow is powerfull---like nothing there.batteries, 2x AA, via secure easy out.SEEMS very water proof and don't know about longevity, but this may play out the RAINBIRD I had for 1.5 years and much more.for less price: feel it's worth it..FOR NOW>Works with soaker hose. Have a dry area in garden that needs to be watered more than I remember to do it. Timer and soaker hose have been working. Easy to set up.Reasonably easy to program.However, I find that this timer really restricts the flow to the sprinkler. For my small back yard, 1 1/2 turns on the faucet was sufficient to cover the entire yard and a portion of the neighbors yard.Now, I've got the flow turned up to full wick (4 turns), and it's only flowing about 3/4 of what it should be. I'm not too concerned, as it reaches the main parts, but I won't be buying another one for the front yardI purchased this for my newly sodded lawn. I spent about two hours going over the manual trying to figure out how to make it shut off because there is no end time setting or information on this which left me scratching my head. After a week I realized shuts off itself at night which is a little presumptuous for a timer, however this is what I needed.No information on how it shuts off could be found in the guide and it made me feel like I’d purchased an egg timer, for over a week I would turn it on and off manually each morning and at night and felt disappointed until I realized it shuts itself off at midnight and restarts at your start time. This now works for me as it requires no manual interaction after setup. So far two weeks in and seems to work well I’d buy it again, but I’d like to let the maker know that if a timer is your product consider putting more emphasis on how the end time functions, otherwise it can be v confusing for beginners like me.Great instructions and control functions, no leaks, keeps time and operates properly. So far, great product and functionalityGreat product for the money. Happy I picked this up to help me to avoid watering for hours and hours when I forget to turn off the water!
