I bought this timer to use on growing bare root roses in Arizona. Roses grow great here except for the earliest stages of initial new growth that is very tender and subject to the harshness of our 2% humidity.I rigged up a temporary system over the pots containing the new bare root roses and set the system to run for 10 seconds every 30 seconds. The batteries didn't last two days. Now I'm changing batteries every day. With only two triple A batteries there isn't enough stored energy for the timer to function for any longer. There should be a whole bunch of double A or some 9 volts batteries as part of this timer.I do have to say that I love the simplicity of setting the time and duration. It is so simple and easy and works great if there is adequate battery power.I had heard that the batteries wear out quickly within days. I have the original batteries in for a week and the valve is set to turn on every 15 minutes for a minute watering for misting for a period of 8 hours and the batteries are still working.Works good, have it hooked up to misters and does the trickI needed a new propagation mist timer that will run for seconds with minutes between run times. This is easy. Just turn the dials to what you need. I've had more advanced timers in the past and after a week of setting at 15 second run with 15 minutes between, this works well. Batteries have held and water shuts off completely between run times. The timer system delivers water at low pressure making them ideal for rain barrel irrigation systems. Read the manual. If you want to start watering at 0600, you must physically set the timer at that exact time in the morning. WRT to FREQUENCY, the timer will not activate until the next cycle. (If you set the FREQUENCY at 24 hr, the cycle will not start until the next day at 0600.) When installing the batteries, carefully pull out the battery compartment as wires are attached at the bottom. The dual timer is great -- I switch the irrigation line to the second timer when I need to water manually thus preserving the timer setting on the first connection. I bought two dual timers and they work great. Great price, too.Running a misting system on a hot day continuously caused things to get very wet. This timer was a perfect solution. A suitable setting in my area is ON for 20 seconds and OFF for 3 minutes, but it may vary depending on wind, humidity, and air temperature.Good timer for the price but be prepared to buy this more than once a season as mine made it only 3 mos |I even put and extra cover on top to keep it out of direct sunlight and to keep it dry. |Next year |I will buy a higher quality one and the price will be about the same and one less hassle and less dead plants when gone because it quits working when no one is home to check. |Plus FYI it takes batteries often. I want to amend this review as the company reached out to me with offers to fix problem---so |I am adding a star for customer serviceUPDATE: One stopped working. No power light.Pros: Easy to use once you understand concept. No leaks yet. Great for more granular controls unlike other sprinkler timers. (Ex. 10 minutes every 2 hours to keep grass seed moist on hot days) Seems to hold up to the elements so far. (UV and light splashes)Cons: The unit does have a slight time drift issue. If I set it to run once a day at 12pm after a couple of cycles it will start running at 12:02 and 12:03 slowly drifting further off original time. One unit did have some plastic covering the battery connection, which was easy enough to remove. Instructions could be a tad better. Some of the nubs on the knobs do not line up exactly with the values on the sticker.Other: Wish they would ditch the 1" adapter and just come as a standard 3/4" like all of our hose bibs have. Better waterproofing would be nice.Tips: It will start its first ON cycle the amount of time you set your frequency to from when you set it. (Ex. Set it to every 2 hours, it will run its first time in 2 hours from when you set it) Be sure not to use tools/wrenches when tightening connections, per the instructions. (Or you will break the plastic threads) Teflon tape recommended on the threads as well. You can also run a manual cycle by setting Frequency to RESET and duration to your specified time.
