This pump is designed to work on a domestic water heating system with a dedicate return line. My house, built in 1997, has exactly that and I've long suspected the original pump was no longer working. It started making a loud noise no too long ago so I finally made the decision to replace it. You will need to know how to sweat copper fittings and you may need adapters if y our return line isn't 3/4" (like mine), but the installation is straight-forward and took me less than an hour.And what a difference it made: The Mrs. and I both noticed how much hotter the water is now in our shower. In fact, we ended up turning down our water-heater because it became TOO hot. I also expect to see some saving on our energy bills because this pump incorporates both a timer and a temperature sensor so it only runs when it detects a water temperature less than 85 degrees AND the timer is set to on.I think this was a good buy.
