The Gymboss miniMAX Interval Timer and Stopwatch is a small multi-interval timer. The miniMAX timer is the trainers timer – its does everything the Classic Gymboss does in addition to saving up to 20 programs and offers up to 25 different intervals. allowing you to time all your work and rest periods. The miniMAX is an advanced model, designed for timing extremely complex interval programs consisting of more than 2 different intervals. If your program only has 1 or 2 different intervals you DO NOT NEED THIS MODEL. Due to the nature of complex intervals this timer is HARDER TO SETUP than the Classic, Plus, or Charge model Gymboss and REQUIRES MORE PATIENCE TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT. If you do purchase this model, we do have printable, expanded instructions on our website help page. HIIT & Tabata Gymboss timers are made to keep your HIIT workouts efficient and effective. The miniMAX allows programming up to 25 different intervals for interval ladders to increase the length of work and decrease the length of recovery during a workout. At the end of each interval, Gymboss vibrates or beeps to let you know when it is time to work or rest – no more watching the clock! Gymboss timers are perfect for Tabata workouts – set the intervals for 20 seconds and 10 seconds for 8 repeats. Run, bike, row, squat, lunge – pick your favorite – and go as hard as you can for the 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, and repeat 8 times. This is the ultimate HIIT routine. There are many different routines to do Tabata style, and the Gymboss is the perfect timer to get the job done. Weightlifting Rest is important when weightlifting. Different rest times yield very different results and providing consistent rest allows you to reach goals and watch your progress. Not timing rest can result in workouts that may run much longer than planned. Use the Gymboss to time an exact rest period, such as 60 seconds, or whatever rest time you desire, between every set. Set the rest you desire and the beep and/or vibration of the Gymboss lets you know when your rest is over. Or, set the repeating feature and complete a disciplined workout of 20 sets in 30 minutes with approximately 60 seconds rest between each set, that’s a 30 minute workout every time! MMA and Boxing Gymboss timers allow you to keep your eye on the prize – not the clock. MMA and boxing training programs require discipline to achieve maximum benefits. Many new school trainers follow old school programs of 3-5 minutes of work to 1 minute of rest but also incorporate many short bursts of very high intensity follow by short recovery to mimic actual boxing and MMA fights. Our timers support 90% of training programs with interval timer, countdown timer and stopwatch functionalities. Crossfit Many Crossfit workouts have time constraints. Gymboss timers offer the functionalities you need no matter the WOD - repeating interval, every minute on the minute, AMRAP, countdown timer and stopwatch. Running or Run Walk Run If you are a runner who wants to improve your race time or a walker who wants to Learn to Run, you can improve through the use of intervals. Gymboss interval timers are the perfect run walk run timer, or can be used for advanced runners training to develop speed and raise their anaerobic threshold. Kettlebells Effective kettlebell routines require timing intervals, circuits and duration. The Gymboss timers keep track of different intervals and workout duration whether your routine involves reps followed by rest, timed work intervals followed by timed recovery intervals, or sequenced timed circuits with or without timed rest. Program the miniMAX for interval ladders to increase the length of work and decrease the length of recovery during a workout and save up to 20 programs for easy recall. Interval and Circuit Training Get out of your exercise slump with interval training – add short bouts of intensity to your cardio workouts to increase endurance and prevent a plateau. Set your Gymboss intervals for high-intensity and lower-intensity to push beyond your comfort zone. Focus on proper form and reps when you move through a circuit – not the clock. The beep and vibration of the interval timer on the Gymboss interval timers let you know when it is time to move to the next circuit. Yoga and Stretching Take your yoga practice outside of the studio with your Gymboss timer. Setting the interval timer helps you learn the correct amount of time to hold a pose. Its small vibration will indicate when to changes poses. Timing your poses will help you learn to control your breath as you move through different poses. Stretching is one of the most important parts of any training program. Many people skip it or don’t hold stretches long enough. The small vibration of the Gymboss keep you accountable for full stretch sessions before and after workouts. Doing 10 stretches for 30 seconds each only takes 5 minutes – timing it prevents interruptions and distractions so you know you are truly getting the most out of your workout. Clip to your waistband. Clip to your tank top. Set on bench to be heard by a group. Small, compact size is easy to set up. I needed an interval timer that could 'grow' with me during my weekly fitness regimen in and out of the gym. But first I had to figure out how one operated in order to know what I was looking for. This was a trial and error process for me. I first tried the GoFit Go Interval timer. I realized that the interval times were pre-determined to 30, 60, 90, and 120 second intervals. And the sets -or rounds - were also pre-determined, but in minutes. The Gymboss miniMAX allows me to select how long I want to, for example, hold a stretch, rest between the next stretch, and for how many sets (or rounds) I want to repeat these intervals. I can use it for circuit training. I can also use it for the Calloway run-walk-run method: I set this timer to allow me to run 5 minutes, audible beep and/or vibrate to signal walking two minutes, and then an audible beep and/or vibration to repeat this sequence again.I can save my static stretching and circuit training as P1 (Program 1) and P2, and my run-walk-run times as P3 (Program 3). This is a nice feature, because I just have to select a saved interval session without having to re-enter the information each time I want to use that timing sequence again. I could even add a P4 to alert me by vibration in 4-minute intervals of my progress while doing a recreational cycling time trial or sprints. I just thought of this!I can save up to 20 programs. Intervals can be set from 2-99 seconds and can be repeated up to 99 times. Another feature I like is that I can set the alarm as either loud or soft (indicated as a capital 'B' for loud and a lower case 'b' for soft on the menu display). And I can also set this timer to vibrate strong ('V') or gentle ('v'). Or I can choose any combination of these choices (e.g., beep and vibrate simultaneously). If that isn't enough flexibility to get excited about, it also has a clock and a stopwatch, and comes in several different color combinations. I chose the camouflage style.I reviewed, purchased, and returned several timing products, that either had too much or too little of what I was looking for. And some were just too large in size. I did not initially order the Gymboss MiniMAX because it was not listed as Amazon Prime; I wanted guaranteed two day delivery. I decided to compromise longer shipping for a product that might be 'the one.' I ordered Wednesday morning, and it arrived Saturday morning - just in time to head to the gym with it!My Final Evaluation: this timer is worth the additional cost for its flexibility of features, small size, and clip. I also ordered the Gymboss armband sold seperately. I included some instructional detail in this review, of information that I found confusing at first, as I tried reading the simple, but microscopic printed instructions. I recommend this timer with full enthusiasm, and I will definitely be bragging about it to my fitness buddies where interval training is important. It turned out being just the timer I needed!
