Very nice timer unit, although just know that there is not an option to bypass it and turn it on indefinitely until you would manually shut it off later. To turn it on and select your desired time you simply press the always lit, blue button at the bottom, and toggle through the presets until the one you want lights up, which is also the process you would have to do to manually turn it off, early, if desired. In other words, you'd have to press the button enough times to toggle to the off position. (Yes, there are other units that have individual buttons for each selection, including an independent on/off button, in case that's important to you.)As for the wiring, a thorough diagram is included both on paper and on the back of the unit, itself. There is also a slot on the back side to set your length of stripped wire for the plug-in option that the instructions presume you'll be using. Each terminal has a couple holes to plug your wires into after you first loosen your screws all the way to then firmly tighten-up, after you've inserted the stripped wire ends into the holes. They also provide a short length of white wire and a wire nut for your connection to an extra neutral or two, if needed. (If more than that, you'd need a larger wire nut.)Often times, the plug-in method, using the holes instead of pinching your wires under the screw heads will not give you as tight and secure a connection, which I found was definitely the case, in my application, even though I'm using 12 gauge wire, so I went with hooking the wires around the screws and pinching them under the screw heads. As for the wiring configuration, a switch is only meant to break (open) or connect (close) the connection in the lead to load wire which will be the black wire if you are wiring new, or it will be the wire that is separated by the old switch, if doing a replacement (which should also be the black wire unless you have really old wiring, or something installed prior by a novice). The terminals will be gold for the lead and load (black wire), silver for the neutral (white wire) and green for the ground (bare or green wire) in the typical situation. If you are doing a replacement, you may only have two wires and not have a bare or green ground wire which is only there as a back-up in a ground fault situation, so your timer switch should still work fine, albeit without that extra level of protection that is now actually code, and a good thing if it's available.I'm using this timer to power 1875 Watts worth of heat lamp bulbs (they're actually only drawing about 1802 Watts, 15.4 Amps and 117 Volts, when measured) with no issues. (The unit is powered by about 70' of 12 gauge wire directly from a 20 Amp breaker in the main electrical panel.)
